  • How much does it cost?

As part of professional practice, all learners are required to wear a uniform during salon sessions. Learners will purchase a professional hairdressing kit through the college’s approved supplier, as this ensures you have the correct tools and resources to complete all practical elements of the course to industry standard.

You will also have opportunities to participate in competitions and attend industry trade shows throughout the year. Uniform and kit order forms are available on the college website.

Full details regarding kit costs, uniform requirements, course fees, and Advanced Learner Loan options will be discussed thoroughly with you at your interview.

  • Who is it for?

This course is ideal for individuals who are passionate about starting a career in the hairdressing industry and want to develop the essential skills needed to work as a professional stylist. It is suitable for:

Adult learners who want to begin their training in a creative, people‑focused profession.

Those with little or no previous hairdressing experience who are looking for a structured introduction to the fundamentals of cutting, colouring, styling, and client care.

Learners who enjoy practical, hands‑on work and want to build confidence working in a salon environment.

Anyone aiming to progress to more advanced hairdressing qualifications or apprenticeships.

This course supports learners who are motivated, creative, and enthusiastic about developing professional salon skills and providing excellent client service.

  • Entry Requirements

Level 1 Diploma in Hairdressing or three GCSEs at grade 4 or above.

A strong level of enthusiasm for the hairdressing industry is essential. Learners must be able to demonstrate excellent communication skills, as you will be providing services to paying clients in our Academy and commercial salon. Exceptional personal presentation is also vital to ensure you meet professional industry standards.

  • What does the course involve?

You will develop a wide range of commercial hairdressing skills while working in our fully equipped salon. Throughout this one‑year course, you will learn and demonstrate the key services required to build a successful career in the hairdressing industry.

To thrive on this programme, you must be prepared to work hard, communicate effectively, and maintain excellent personal presentation at all times.

    This course includes:

    • Client consultation
    • Shampooing and conditioning techniques
    • Women’s and men’s cutting
    • Styling and finishing
    • Colouring and lightening hair
    • Reception duties

  • Additional Notes

Learners are required to have a one‑day‑a‑week placement in a professional salon to support the development of their practical skills and industry knowledge. This real‑world experience is an essential part of the course and helps prepare you for employment in the hairdressing sector.

Upon successful completion of this course, you will be expected to progress to the Level 3 Diploma in Hairdressing, where you can continue to advance your technical ability, creativity, and professional confidence.
